ATHLETIC CLUB NEWS

Over three hundred and fifty children took part in the Leitrim Primary Schools Cross Country in St Felim's Playing field on Wednesday last. Adedemola Olageshin from Scoil Chlann Naofa was an impressive winner of the Junior Boys race with the Townsend twins Harry and Scott from Newtowngore NS second and fourth respectively.Eanna Flynn of Fenagh NS finished eleventh and being among the first twelve qualified for the Connacht Championships in Tuam this  Wednesday. Scoil Chlann Naofa finished third. The  Senior girls race was won by Cliona McTiernan of Fenagh NS and her school, St Caillins, finished second. In the Senior Boys race Padraig Guckian and Adam Gill of Fenagh finished second and fourth with Brian Ahern and Mark Prior of Scoil Chlann Naofa sixth and eleventh respectively. St Caillins finished second in the team event.  Thirty participants took part in the Greenway Parkrun last Saturday with Slovakian student Stephan Kratochoil first home in 19.37 for the second week in succession. There were two personal bests and four first timers. The Club will host an Athletics Ireland Athletics Leader Coaching Course on Saturday October 21st which will be of interest and value to all who are involved with childrens' sporting activities. Ballinamore Badminton 

Starting Tues 19th October at 9pm Ballinamore Sports Complex. Everyone welcome €3 per night, pay as u go. All levels welcome

 

1st LEITRIM SCOUTS 

are enrolling, Cubs (age 8-11years) and Scouts (age 12-15years). New and existing members are welcome. New program starts in October. THE BACKPACK FOR ADULTS Following on previous year’s success. Cavan Institute, this course will run again on Tues evenings from October 10th for 8 weeks. The Backpack is a human development programme addressing topics such as Anxiety, Negative Looping Thoughts, Resilience Building, Self-Awareness, Boundary Setting and Healthy Relationship with Self, Others, and God. Ballinamore Club Notes 

SCÓR SINSIR 2023

Well done to our new Gold Winners in the ScórLiatroma Set dancing. The county final was held last Friday night and  ladies put in a fantastic performance to win Leitrim and will now represent the club and county in the Connacht finals. The winning ladies were  Siobhán McTague Elaoishe Martin Orla McWeeney Petra Deane Paula Kellegher Michelle Reynolds Maeve Hamill and  Órla Murphy. All at the club wish the ladies the very best of luck in the next rounds ! 

1972 / 1973 Senior Championship winning teams.    

On Sunday at the Leitrim Senior Club Final, our championship winning teams from 1972 and 1973 was honoured by Leitrim GAA in Pairc Sean MacDiarmada. It was a great occasion for the family and friends of our former players and an opportunity to celebrate all that they achieved wearing the Ballinamore jersey. 

The 1972 team avenged defeat in the 1971 final by beating Mohill while the 1973 team beat Allen Gaels after a replay to record the clubs last back-to-back titles. The players that were part of those two winning teams were as follows  Noel Crossan, Michael McTague, Harry O’Dowd (RIP), Brendan Burns, Sean Kavanagh, Michael Martin (RIP), Brian McKiernan, Thomas Galligan (RIP), Patsy Prior, Dermot Gannon, Hughie Smith (RIP), Sean McGirl, Joe Gormley, Paddy Dolan (RIP), Tommy McCormack, Peter Crossan (RIP), Tom O’Shea (RIP), Francis Duignan (RIP), Gerry McIntyre, Paddy Friel, Sean Creamer, Killian McKiernan, Noel Flynn (RIP), Gay Prior, Walter Sharpley, Aiden Crossan (RIP), Noel  Duignan, Joey Smith, Sean Sharpley, Padraig Flanagan (RIP).

AUGHNASHEELIN FORÓIGE: weekly Foróige club meetings are held in Aughnasheelin Community Hall on Friday evenings at 7 o'clock. Volunteers and new members are welcome. For information contact Nathan on 083 479 4549.

 

BALLINAMORE FORÓIGE: Local Foróige District Council are offering training for adult leaders later this month, if interested please contact Shane 086 108 4116 this is worthwhile well recognized training, and leaders hours can contribute to Social Studies (AUT) practical hours.

LINE DANCING CLASSES: We are delighted to welcome back John & Julie to hold Line Dancing classes in Corlough Community Centre at 8pm. on Tuesday 3rd, 10th, (not 17th), 24th & 31st October. Also 7th, 14th, (not 21st), and 28th November - so 7weeks in total. Cost: €7 Adult and €4 under 18's who must be accompanied by an adult.

This service is free, and helps people to overcome fear of digital technology. DIGITAL SKILLS SUPPORT CLASSES: Ballinamore Library is providing one-to-one digital support to adults using their own devices such as iPads, smartphones, tablets, and laptops. This service is available free with experienced friendly tutors which are more than willing to help.   The purpose of the project is to assist people to overcome issues they are facing using digital technology.
