THE BACKPACK FOR ADULTS Following on previous year’s success. Cavan Institute, this course will run again on Tues evenings from October 10th for 8 weeks. The Backpack is a human development programme addressing topics such as Anxiety, Negative Looping Thoughts, Resilience Building, Self-Awareness, Boundary Setting and Healthy Relationship with Self, Others, and God. Ballinamore Athletic Club commences Winter Training this week and  both Indoor and Outdoor training will be available each Tuesday and Thursday between 7 00 and 8 00 p,m. at the Sports Hall and St Felim's Playing field under lights. New members w3ill be enrolled each evening at training. The Club organised a successful experimental Junior 2k parkrun on Saturday morning last on the Greenway before the  official 5K weekly parkrun. The response was good and an official Junior Parkrun may be provided by the Greenway Parkrun organisers in the not too distant future.  The Leitrim Primary Schools Cross Country Championships were transferred from the usual venue in Leitrim Village at short notice to Ballinamore and takes place this Wednesday.  The first twelve runners and first three teams in each of the four events qualify for the Connacht Finals in Loughrea next Wednesday. The first of the two Connacht Cross Country Championships which is for the even ages will be held in Westport on Sunday October 22nd and this year an Under 10 event for those born in 2014 is added.  The previous day Ballinamore  A C host an AAI Leader Course for Coaches and applications can be made on Eventmaster. ACTIVE ADULTS 50+ AEROBICS: Cavan Sports Partnership are holding a gentle Aerobics Class Wed 4th Oct. 8pm. in Corlough Community Centre for 6 weeks. Cost 6 weeks is €25, register http://www.evenbrite.ie/aerobics/corlough.


LINE DANCING CLASSES: We are delighted to welcome back John & Julie to hold Line Dancing classes in Corlough Community Centre at 8pm. on Tuesday 3rd, 10th, (not 17th), 24th & 31st October. Also 7th, 14th, (not 21st), and 28th November - so 7weeks in total. Cost: €7 Adult and €4 under 18's who must be accompanied by an adult.

The Irish Revolution in Leitrim 1912 – 1923

A Decade of Centenaries lecture by Dr Padraig McGarty will be held on Friday 6th October at 7.30 pm in Ballinamore Library. Dr McGarty’s talk titled “The Irish Revolution in Leitrim 1912-1923 - Reflection and Remembrance” will be of special interest to the people of Ballinamore and surrounding parishes. He will outline events in the Ballinamore area, and in the wider county during the traumatic period of the Irish Revolution including World War One, Easter Rising, War of Independence and Civil War. Admission to the lecture is free and all are welcome to attend.

There are 2 Events planned for November 2023; Thursday 23rd Nov – a Libraries Symposium, a one-off event to complete our Cross-Border Reading Project. The evening will comprise of a number of informative seminars, discussion groups, and culminates with a special roundtable event – Exploring the themes of the project; looking at similarities and differences from the books chosen related to borders/boundaries, good relations, equality and peace and reconciliation. A number of our high profile authors will be in attendance. Refreshments will be served throughout the evening, and will run from 5pm – 9pm in the island Theatre, Ballinamore.  

Celebratory event – Friday 24th Nov – All welcome for an evening of celebration and recognition of the achievements of the ‘Better Together – Níos Fearr Le Chéile Peace Impact Programme 2022 – 2024’ A celebratory evening in tribute to the accomplishments and achievements realised by the project and it’s participants over the past 2 years.
