Hedge Cutting Grant Scheme 2023/2024

This scheme is now open and aims to encourage the cutting of roadside hedges/trees along the Public Road Network. Open to all, individual applicants, communities and groups. The Grant is €75 per km of the roadside hedge/overhanging trees which are cut back. Minimum length of road network per application is 1km. Closing Date is 31st January, 2024.

 

ATHLETIC CLUB NEWS

Ballinamore Athletic Club will hold a very important Information and Planning Meeting on Wednesday evening (September 27th) at 8.00 p.m. in the Den beside the Sports Hall.  At this meeting all details regarding Club winter training and upcoming competitions will be outlined and discussed. New members are now also being enrolled.  The meeting, which is held each year at this time, is open to all interested in athletics in the general area. Club training will commence at the Sports Hall and adjacent St Felim's on Tuesday October 3rd at 7.00 p.m. with new members very welcome.  The first competition will be the Leitrim Primary Schools Championships which will take place on a day to be announced during that week so that Leitrim qualifiers can be identified for the Connacht Primary Schools Championships in Loughrea on Wednesday October 11th. Well done to Club member Colin Griffin  who was recently awarded a Ph.D by the University of Cote d'Azur  in conjunction with the Sports Surgery Clinic where he works  for his presentation on Achilles Tendon Rehabilitation and lower limb biomechanics. Colin is currently preparing for the Dublin Marathon which also incorporates the AAI National Marathon on Sunday October 29th.  The Club will run an experimental Junior Parkrun on Saturday next at 9 00 a.m. in order to see would there be sufficient interest  among runners and helpers in an official Junior Parkrun which can be held in the coming weeks. The run will be open to runners, joggers and walkers who have not achieved fifteen years of age, will be held on the Greenway Course and over the junior distance of 2K.

Sympathy 

All at the club would like to pass on our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the late Seamus Beirne who sadly passed away on Saturday. Seamus passing was marked at the county semi-final on Sunday when the teams and those in attendance had a minute’s silence for Seamus. We ask all our supporters to please keep Seamus and his family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

On Sunday we also heard of the sad passing of Rose McGovern Drumshanbo, Rose is mother to Breege who is married to club secretary Niall , we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to all of Rose’s family and friends at this difficult time and ask all our supporters to please keep Rose and her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time

RECENT DEATH: Please pray for the soul of Micheal (Mick) Loughlin (Derrinkeher) whose funeral will take place in Aughnasheelin Church on Sun 24th at 12 noon. Memorial Mass for the late Ben Donoghue, Garadice & England will take place in St Patricks Church Aughawillan on Sat 11th Nov at 7pm. CHANGE OF MASS TIMES: From  the 7th of October the Saturday evening mass will be in Aughawillan at 7pm and In Aughnasheelin at 8.15pm, Mass on Sunday the 8th of October will be at 9.45am in Corraleehan and 11am at usual time in Ballinamore. This arrangement will stay in place until the first weekend of April 2024.

KILMORE APOSTOLIC SOCIETY CENTENARY: an official display opens in the museum in Ballyjamesduff from Thurs Oct. 5th at 7 30pm and will remain on display throughout October. This service is free with experienced friendly tutors, will assist people to overcome issues they are facing using digital technology. GENTLE EXERCISE CLASS: Invitation to join our weekly gentle exercise class which includes gentle movement to music and stretching suitable for older adults. FEBRUARY 2024 SEES THE 2 Yrs. BETTER TOGETHER- NÍOS FEARR LE CHÉILE PIP COME TO A CLOSE: 

There are 2 Events planned for November 2023; Thursday 23rd Nov – a Libraries Symposium, a one-off event to complete our Cross-Border Reading Project. The evening will comprise of a number of informative seminars, discussion groups, and culminates with a special roundtable event – Exploring the themes of the project; looking at similarities and differences from the books chosen related to borders/boundaries, good relations, equality and peace and reconciliation. A number of our high profile authors will be in attendance. Refreshments will be served throughout the evening, and will run from 5pm – 9pm in the island Theatre, Ballinamore.  

Celebratory event – Friday 24th Nov – All welcome for an evening of celebration and recognition of the achievements of the ‘Better Together – Níos Fearr Le Chéile Peace Impact Programme 2022 – 2024’ A celebratory evening in tribute to the accomplishments and achievements realised by the project and it’s participants over the past 2 years. The evening will be an insightful experience, showcasing the journeys, efforts and contributions from all involved.
