Club runner Colin Griffrin who is preparing for the Dublin Marathon which incorporates the AAI National Championship in seven weeks time had an excellent run in the Ratoath half marathon on Saturday last, finishing second to Peter Somba of Dunboyne A C in 1:10.52, thirty eight seconds behind the winner. Third position went to Paul Stephenson of Rathfarnham WSAF AC in 1:11.37.  Nine hundred and thirty runners completed the Course.  Thirty nine participants completed the Ballinamore Greenway Parkrun on Saturday morning last and for the first time since it began in July of 2022 the first home was registered as "unknown" as they did not have a token which at the finish is scanned to give the finishing time. There were six others in the same position along with two who recorded personal bests.  All taking part in a Parkrun are asked to google www.parkrun.ie to easily draw down a token which is free of charge and can be used at all parkrun finishes.
The organisers are planning to hold a Junior Parkrunon one of the Saturdays during the next few weeks in order to gauge interest which, if shown, will lead to regular Junior Parkruns.  While the main Parkrun is over five kilometres and held at 9 30 a.m. each Saturday morning the Junior run is over two kilometres and  confined to Under 14s.  The club will host an Athletics Ireland Leader Coaching Course in Ballinamore Sports Hall and the adjacent Den on Saturday October 21st. This had been scheduled for March 4th last but was postponed due to difficulties which arose on the AAi side but now all is in order. Enquiries can be made to 089 2129811.
