DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK takes place on Wed. 9th August 2023, the Feast of St Felim, the Patron Saint of the Kilmore Diocese. Ceremonies begin at 2pm with the outdoor Stations of the Cross and Rosary Procession. The 

Celebration of Mass and the Anointing of the Sick will take place at 3pm. Bishop Martin Hayes will be the Main Celebrant. A special invitation is extended to all families from across the diocese.

BOOKING ANNIVERSARIES MASSES: As you are aware we have shared mass intentions in our churches at the weekends. We try to limit the number of intentions to a maximum of three. To maintain this arrangement we suggest that you book anniversary masses well in advance. Please book Masses via the email or Office phone number above. 

 

 

 

BELFAST TO KNOCK PEACE WALKERS: We are now just a few of weeks away from having our friends from Belfast pass through our town as they walk to Knock over five days on their Peace Pilgrimage. Over the years the parish has always opened their hearts and homes to the walkers and have been most generous and supportive to those walking the pilgrimage, Mass will be on Thursday 20th July at 7:30pm. All parishioners are welcome to come and experience the Mass, the music and the liturgy that the Cursillio members bring to their celebrations.

 

MOTHER TERESA RELIC AND SPEAKING EVENT - the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Cavan H12 E5C7: On Wednesday 19th July, author Jim Towey, trusted advisor and devoted friend of Mother Teresa, will share stories of her mission, life, and connection with Ireland at a speaking event in the Diocesan Pastoral Centre's Drumlane Room from 7p.m. to 8:30p.m. With a book-signing opportunity beforehand from 6:30p.m. A sacred relic of Saint Teresa of Calcutta will be displayed for veneration in The Conaty Chapel on the same day from 2 pm until 9pm approximately when a blessing with the relic will be imparted.  Mass will be celebrated at 3 pm and 6 pm   Petitions or Offerings may be sent to the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre, The Conaty Centre, Cullies, Cavan H12 E5C7.  All petitions received will be placed beside the relic during its visit.  Please write “Petitions” on the top left hand corner of the envelope.  For further information, please contact 086 0400 688 or the Diocesan Pastoral Centre on 049 437 5004.

BALLINAMORE ATHLETIC CLUB: thank the Management and staff of Supervalu and Tesco as well as the helpers and contributors for the success of our fundraising activity last Saturday. Training for Club Community Games qualifiers will be resume next month.

TO MARK NATIONAL DAY OF COMMEMORATION 2023: 

 

Leitrim County Council’s Decade of Centenaries Committee would like to invite members of the public to attend a commemorative event on Sunday 9th July at 2.30pm at the Manorhamilton Garden of Remembrance and Reflection. The focus of the event is to commemorate all men and women from Leitrim or connected with Leitrim who died as a result of conflict during the decade 1914 – 1924.

Hughie Smith RIP 

Members and supporters of the Club were saddened to hear of the death of Hughie Smith in New York.

Hughie, was born in Corlough Co. Cavan and later lived in Ballynacargy in Co. Westmeath. He moved to Ballinamore in 1966 to serve as an apprentice carpenter with his cousin John Smith at the joinery shop in High St.  He played minor for the club that year and graduated on to the Senior team in 1967 along with the likes of “Birdie” Burns and Brian McKiernan.

He went on to win 3-in-a-row Senior Championships in 1967, ’68 & ’69. He also won 5 league medals between 1967 & 1972 along with a further senior championship in 1972. 

Hughie was then brought home to Ireland where he reposed at Smith’s Funeral Home before returning to his home in Ballynacargy for reposing, Mass & burial.
