ADVENT-NEW SEASON: Candles as part of an Evergreen Wreath remind us Jesus came as light into our dark world. Each candle means something different. The first candle symbolises Hope, sometimes called “Prophet’s Candle/God's People Candle” signifies our wait for the arrival of Jesus coming. The second candle represents Faith or “Bethlehem Candle” it reminds us Jesus was born in Bethlehem and of the journey of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem. The third candle symbolises Joy or “Shepherd’s Candle”. This Candle reminds us that the angels announced to the shepherds in the field, “good news of great joy to all people.” This candle is pink because the colour Rose signifies joy. The fourth candle signifies Peace and is called the “Angel’s Candle” The angels announced that Jesus came to bring peace–He brings peace with God and with each other again. The fifth is white and symbolises Light and Purity, or “Christ’s candle” signifying Christ's Birth. It is in the centre of the wreath reminding us that Christ is central to life.

REFLECTION - The 4th Candle is lit on the Advent Wreath the “Angel’s Candle” – PEACE

This name comes from the fact that the angels announced that Jesus came to bring peace (Luke 2:14). This week we are reminded that Jesus came to bring peace to our hearts and to our world!

Lord, would you bring your strength and peace to your people! Would your presence be felt by all who seek you in a powerful way in this Advent season. Turn the hearts of mankind towards you. We pray that the lost turn to you and find an unshakable peace that nothing else in this world can offer.

Amen
