U16 Girls Championship Final
Our u16 girls were playing in their county Final in Drumkeerin on Saturday evening against Glencar Manor. The girls played some fantastic football and were in contention till the last few minutes when Glencar pulled away. The final score was 5:10 to 1:11 , but as they say scores do not always tell the full story and we were certainly in with a shout till the last few minutes, our goalie Chloe Murray had a fantastic game and was not at fault for any of the goals with only our smaller panel and running out of steam near the end the difference in the two teams. Over the course of the last few weeks the girls and the management team have worked very hard and we thank them for their supreme effort. The girls themselves are young with 11 of them representing the club in the u14 championship this year so hopefully there will be more to come from them.
MacDiarmada Gaels
Hard luck to our u15 lads who were in action on Saturday morning against St Mary’s in the county final, the lads have been working very hard over the course of the season and have had some great results in getting this far including a victory against St Mary’s and 4 other victories in division one. It was a difficult game and was closer than the score suggests but at the end St Mary’s were deserved winners and we wish them well.
There has been excellent progress for this young team and hopefully will see them back next season again. As a club we would like to thank all the players, parents and the management team for all the effort they have put in in getting the team this far, hopefully we can go one step further next season.
Underage Training and Nursery
A fantastic end to our Nursery and u9 season on Saturday Morning with 80 players in attendance from ages 4 to 9. Saturday was the culmination of a great season which hopefully all the children enjoyed despite the challenges of Covid.
The success of the year is down to the hard work of all our coaches and helpers and without this help we would not have been able to continue. Special thanks to Shane Harte whose dedication to our underage players is second to none. Shane has been assisted by a great group of coaches who have helped drive the Saturday mornings to the success that they have become.
So please if you see the following people make sure to thank them for their help, the success of this endeavour will help ensure the future success of our club for many years to come. So, thanks to Shane Harte. Fiona Nolan, Gearoid McGovern, Lynda MacAodha, Michelle Prior, Áine McTague, Caroline McCartin, Pat Dillon, James Maguire, John Galligan, Niall Gormley, Gavin Brennan, Fachtna Regan and all the parents that helped.
A special thanks to Jenny for everything she had done in organising the Covid precautions and ensuring that the children had a safe environment to play and train in.
By the looks of the smiling faces on Saturday morning the children certainly enjoyed their last day with all the goodies, Fruit and medals that they were all presented with. Special thanks to Fresh Today Ballinamore for their very kind and generous sponsorship of the Fruit, Tesco Ballinamore for including us in their blue token appeal and the McTague Family for sponsoring the goals, footballs and the medals.
