Connacht Gold Senior Championship
Well done to our senior team who were in action on Saturday evening against Aughawillian in the first of three matches that we had against the neighbours. It was a tough evening weather wise with the game played in difficult conditions with lots of rain and slippery conditions. The lads put up a very professional display and controlled the game well from the start looking comfortable on the ball and always had a threat going forward, it was a low scoring game with the lads winning by a score of 0:10 to 0:07.
Thanks to all the stewards and everyone in attendance for helping to ensure a safe environment for our patrons during these difficult times. We must also compliment Leitrim GAA for their excellent coverage of the game on YouTube, it was certainly professionally orchestrated and was a credit to the county board, with many saying the coverage was as good as anything you would see on the Sunday game.
Our seniors have a bye this weekend.
Junior Championship
The conditions could not have been more different than Saturday evening with the sun shining on the Pairc as we met Aughawillian for the third time of the weekend with our Junior A team in action on this occasion. We had a very strong team in attendance with some of our u17 lads from last year Senan Harte and Eoin Shanley playing well in the game. It was an impressive display for the lads with some excellent goals scored in a game against a weekend Aughawillian who were missing a number of players. The Lads were very professional and won the game by a score of 5:21 to 0.01. Next up for the lads is a match away to Annaduff at 13:30 on Sunday.

Ladies Championship
Sean O'heslins began their senior championship with a very strong win over St Brigids at home. Sean O Heslins got off to a great start with an attacking run from midfield by Ciara O Dowd scoring a goal and follow up point in the first five minutes. The opening 15 minutes was mainly played inside St Brigids defence. Niamh Donohoe saw her shot brilliantly saved by Maeve Quinn however the O'Heslin ladies attacking runs began to translate on the scoreboard with another goal from Emma McGovern and follow up points from the O'Dowd sisters. St Brigids began to find some breathing space and a great passage of play saw Siomha Quinn find Ella Quinn in space in front of goals however some great defending from Lisa Maguire stifled St Brigids venture into the O'Heslin half. O'Heslins kept the pressure on before the water break with another five points in quick succession scored between Niamh Donohoe, Emma McGovern and Aoibhinn Flynn the latter seemed to pick up an injury on her conversion and was replaced by Ellen Wrynne. St Brigids tightened up defence after the water break and the Ballinamore women were not having as much freedom. Scores came from distance from the O Dowd sisters and a free by Roisin Mchugh. Edel Shanley sustained an injury at wing back and was replaced by Katie Flynn. St Brigids were beginning to have periods of possession from their defence and break out runs, however seemed to be unable to break into the O'Heslin back line. A poor clearance by Ballinamore gave the St Brigids a chance to punish however the effort dropped short into the keeper’s hands. O'heslins began a strong counter attack which ended in a Laura O Dowd goal. An Aisling Quinn pass found Aoife Mannion in space who’s shot went across the goal of Michaela Harte. On the next press a pinpoint pass from Ciara Gaffney found Ciaomhe Quinn who was fouled, the placed free however failed to find the posts but Brigids finished the half with good effort. The second half did not see a change of tide for St Brigids with OHeslins quick of the mark with three points from Laura O Dowd. Ciara Gaffney came out the worst of an aerial battle with Ciara O Dowd and was substituted as a precaution. O Dowd wasted no time in pressing for another score which came off the upright and was collected by Eimhin Quinn out to the midfield where it was turned over again and this time Ciara O Dowd put over a long range shot. Megan McGovern at midfield but in hard graft and finished with 0-2 points to her credit. Maeve Quinn made another great save shortly before the water break and Allannah Gunn of St Brigids made a fantastic tracking run on Laura O Dowd who was bearing down on goal to make a vital tackle. Both teams rang in the changes with an impressive showing from Lily Byrne who scored a fine point and had a well-placed kick saved by Maeve Quinn and out for a 45, taken by Gilgunn and finished over the bar by McHugh. The new St Brigids fought well throughout and never gave up on a tough championship game however the overall strength of the O Heslins made easy work in the opening game.
Final score 3-20 SOH 0-0 St Brigids. Both teams will be out again next weekend for the second round of the championship games.
