Come along and support our Leitrim Rose Erin Moran on Friday 4th August

Friends of our Leitrim Rose, Erin Moran, are hosting a night to support Erin on her venture in the Rose of Tralee Final on Friday 4th August 2017 at Smyths Siopa Ól, Ballinamore. Brendan Brennan will spin the discs and the yarns on the night. All Welcome.


Ballinamore Agricultural Show Society

A meeting of the Show Society will be held in the Community Centre on Tuesday 1st August at 9pm.  The main item on the agenda will be preparation for Show Day on Tuesday 15th August.
All stewards and helpers are requested to attend to their usual duties on Monday 14th at 10 am and on Tuesday 15th of August.  All stewards are requested to wear high visibility jackets.

 

Ballinamore Show – Tuesday 15th August 2017

Exhibitors are reminded that entries for this year’s Show close Tuesday 8th August.  The Show Office is located at the Tourist Centre (Old Clinic building), High Street, Ballinamore.  Telephone 071 9645670.  The office will be open from 10am until 7pm each day until August 8th.  Remember no late entries will be accepted.  This year’s Show will be held in Creamer’s field, Golf Road, Ballinamore.  Schedules are available from the Show Office 071 9645670 or 087 0916433 and in local shops.

 

Ballinamore Agricultural Show Notice 2017

Ballinamore Agricultural Show, one of the highlights of the Annual Festival will take place on Tuesday 15th August at Creamer’s Field, Golf Links Road Ballinamore.  This annual event is regarded as one of the best in the region attracting exhibitors from a wide area.  Prize money has increased to €15,000 and a variety of goods will be on offer for the prize winners in the classes.  This year Ballinamore will host qualifiers for Horses and Cattle, the winners of which will go forward to Championship finals at other shows later in the summer.  Judging in the Hose and Cattle sections gets under way at 11am with five rings in operation.  Judging of Sheep starts at 1.30pm.  the very popular dog show begins at 1.30pm, with a total of seventeen classes catering for all breeds.  In the Marquee judging in the Home Industry, Cookery, Farm, Garden and Photography sections also commences at 11m and indications are that the number of exhibitors will exceed previous years.  The Best Dressed Lady at the Show will be selected between 2pm and 4pm.  There will also be many contenders for the title of Most Glamorous Granny and Miss Fashionista and Mother and Daughter Lookalike.  The Tossing the Sheaf will bring proceedings on the Show field to a close.  The presence of many trade stands, stalls all add to the carnival atmosphere of Show Day and provide entertainment for all the family.  The Committee would like to thank the local business Community for their continued support and also the many firms who have sponsored the various classes.

Women’s Group

A weekend trip to Galway staying in Flannerys Hotel,13th to 15th October, is been organized by Ballinamore Women’s group.  Total cost is270 euro which includes transport, meals and trips. A deposit of eighty euro must be paid before August 1st to book a place and the balance paid on or before 1st September. Enquiries to 0876327959

 

Family Fundraiser for the late Lorraine Lynch – proceeds raised will go to St Ciaran’s Services

August 6th 2017 in the Sheemore Inn, Kilclare, Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim there will be a family fundraiser held in memory of Lorraine Lynch, Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim. Lorraine passed away on 23rd December 2016 aged only 18 years. The fundraiser will commence at 3pm with a BBQ and Children's entertainment including giant snakes and ladders, twister, penalty shoot out and fancy dress Music commencing at 6.30pm with Mickey Clerkin. Monster auction and raffle - commencing at 7.30pm. Special guest appearance with the amazing Sandy Kelly.  All proceeds raised on the day will be donated to St Ciaran's Services for Adults and Special Needs Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim for the purchase of equipment to enhance the daily experiences of the service users, where Lorraine's brother David attends on a daily and respite basis.

 

Aughawillan GAA

will be holding a sponsored cycle on Bank Holiday Monday, August 8th at 3pm. It will begin at Tesco car park Ballinamore and take the route via Aghoo, Drumcoura, Newtowngore, Garadice and back to Ballinamore. Registration is optional. Everybody who wishes to take part is very welcome.

 

Children’s Movie Hour, Ballinamore Library.

There will be a movie hour in the Ballinamore Library this coming Saturday 5th August at 2.30pm.  Details of movie available at the library 071 9645566.
Admission free. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

VOLUNTEER TUTORS NEEDED IN CARRICK-ON-SHANNON 

Age Action runs beginner/improver computer classes for older people who have little or no experience or who are terrified of technology. The aim of the programme is to make older people comfortable using laptops/tablets/smartphones and helping them navigate the Internet. Tutoring is generally done on a 1:1 basis (where possible). Strong basic computer/tablet/smartphone skills and fluent English needed but patience and good humour just as important! Training provided. Lahard summercamp

was a great success again this year. We had football, soccer, games, art/craft, dance, music, gymnastics and comedy. 46 children attended the camp. Thanks to Pat who did football and soccer, Denise for arts and crafts & Julie for Sean nós dancing. The big highlight was our trip to Tayto Park. Thanks to Mary and Fiona N.C.Y.S , Leitrim Dev. Co- , Leitrim Co. Childcare and Lahard residence association.  Looking forward to next year! Pauline Moran (Project Leader)  

 

North West Simon Community

Many thanks to all who contributed to the recent church gate collection for North West Simon Community in Ballinamore, €384.60 raised, thanks to the volunteers also, this money goes towards the housing support programme in Leitrim. 

 

Do you want to re-train to re-enter the workforce? 

Are you out of work due to illness, disability or a personal setback?  ICT Skills is a level 4 programme designed to support people who have faced a long-term barrier to employment to re-train and re-enter the workforce.  Participants on this programme may qualify for a training allowance (depending on eligibility criteria).  Benefits to this programme include a work placement, training plan, personalised support and QQI certification.  Please telephone Mary on 049 4377038 for more information. 

 

Summer Stars programme back at Ballinamore Library 

The popular Summer Stars Reading Adventure is running in all public libraries throughout the county this summer. Summer Stars is a free programme, open to all children. Each child who registers for the programme can join in the fun of reading lots of exciting books during the summer. Children will receive their own Summer Stars Reading Card to record their progress and the Summer Stars Reward Stamp will be added to their card at the library for each book read. 

Fun rewards will be provided along the way. At the end of the programme, all children who have participated will be invited to attend an awards event. Children and families will also have access to fun reading activities on the Summer Stars website, www.summerstars.ie. This site has lots of fun activities, games, Talking Ebooks, stories, reading tips, book suggestions by age group and interviews with children’s authors and other celebrities. The programme will run to the end of August and children can register at any point during this time. The challenge is a fantastic way of encouraging children to keep reading during their holidays at a time when reading levels tend to drop. Class Reunion

On Saturday 5th August, anybody who started as a 1st Year pupil in Mean Scoil Fatima, St. Felim’s or Ballinamore Vocational school in 1972, did their Leaving Cert there in 1977, came to the schools or spent time as part of that class during this time or any of those who taught during this period are invited to a class reunion in the Commercial Hotel., Ballinamore.
